In this area, you&#8217;re surrounded\u00a0by amazing landscape and plenty of things to do. This is what we spend our four days in November doing.<\/p>\n<h2>Hiking Around Castellammare del Golfo<\/h2>\n<p>Castellammare town is build up agianst mountains slopes and surrounded by rocky mountains. This makes for quite a spectacular view from the town and adds some nice options for activities.<\/p>\n<p>We used the great app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiloc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikiloc<\/a>\u00a0to find some trails starting at the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/5X8hETLnSHn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Belvedere viewpoint<\/a>. The viewpoint is just outside of town and from there we did a few good hikes in total solitude.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1749\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1749\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_1086.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_1086.jpg\" alt=\"View of the sea from the mountains in Castellammare del Golfo Sicily\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1749\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View of the sea from the mountains in Castellammare del Golfo Sicily<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Biking Around Castellammare del Golfo<\/h2>\n<p>Spend at least a day on bikes, as there are some pretty epic rides in this area. I rented a decent (but not pro) mountain bike from <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/P1jnpoCtEXT2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TourShop<\/a>\u00a0located on the main pedestrian street Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi for 10 euros for one day. You can find many biking routes in the area with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiloc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikiloc<\/a>\u00a0app, but I opted for the one they recommended at the shop. Just outside of the town you&#8217;ll find <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/AR91uEepu5R2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lido Peter Pan<\/a>\u00a0which is a long sandy beach. In the summertime, it&#8217;s a true lido, filled with sunchairs for rent. In November it was totally empty.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_1735\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1735\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_1153-e1542131635350.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_1153-e1542131635350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"732\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1735\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View along Castellammare&#8217;s coast<\/figcaption><\/figure><figure id=\"attachment_1729\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1729\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Scopellobeach.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Scopellobeach.jpg\" alt=\"Scopello beach\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1729\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">November swim at Lido Vida Loca, Scopello<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Near Scopello we went to <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/AEgCSqPaHQq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lido Vida Loca<\/a>\u00a0which a stone and pebble beach, with clear turquoise water.\u00a0 A great place for a\u00a03-year-old stone collector!<\/p>\n<p>Scopello is quite famous for <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/PmFa6bs1ULn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tonnara di Scopello<\/a>, which is an old tuna processing area.\u00a0 The property is private and you&#8217;ll pay 3 euros to enter. We&#8217;ve gone to the free <a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/trapani-and-san-vito-lo-capo\/#Tonnara_Del_Secco\">Tonnara del Secco<\/a> instead before, which is located on the north side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/trapani-and-san-vito-lo-capo\/#Zingaro_Nature_Reserve\">Zingaro nature reserve<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In general, it&#8217;s just nice to drive along the coast and explore whatever little cove or beach you pass by.<\/p>\n<h2>Fresh Fish on the Harbor in Castellammare del Golfo<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/JcTYWB9jo9S2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In the port of\u00a0Castellammare del Golfo,<\/a> fishermen dock every day to sell the fresh catch from around 9 in the morning. Get yourself accommodation with\u00a0a kitchen and you can make a delicious seafood meal. You can get all sorts of shellfish, depending on the season and the daily catch, and a wide selection of fish.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1725\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1725\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Harbour-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Harbour-1.jpg\" alt=\"Harbour in Castellammare del Golfo\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1725\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Go to the harbor in the morning to buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Make sure to try the local species you maybe haven&#8217;t heard of before. We bought\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Squilla_mantis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cannochie<\/a>, Dorade,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Atlantic_bonito\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Palamita <\/a>&#8211; as well as clams and octopus, and cooked some great dinners\u00a0at home.<\/p>\n<h2>Buy Fresh Food Right on your Doorstep<\/h2>\n<p>In the small narrow street we lived in, a food truck of a local farmer, fisherman or baker would come by every day. The driver shouts out loud or uses a speaker to let the residents know what he is selling. Monday bread, Tuesday fish and a few times a week greens, fruits and vegetables. This is something you will find in many Sicilian villages, and in each mountain village\u00a0for sure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/foodvan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/foodvan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1884\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1884\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/truck.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lemonsandpalmtrees.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/truck.jpg\" alt=\"Truck in Castellammare\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1884\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The trucks that sell local produce<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>When to Visit<\/h2>\n<p>November is\u00a0off-season so we had the mountain trails and the beach pretty much all to our selves! \u00a0When the sun is out the temperature nestled nicely around the 18- 22 degrees and the sea was still warm enough to take a fresh dip in.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a few restaurants were closed for holidays and the town of Castellammare was very quiet &#8211; we imagine it&#8217;s all very different in the summer season, and especially July and August.<\/p>\n<h2>Get to\u00a0Castellammare del Golfo<\/h2>\n<p>Castellammare\u00a0del Golfo is located a 45 minutes drive from Palermo airport and Trapani Birgi airport.<\/p>\n<p>Driving inside the city of Castellammare is a bit tricky. The streets are narrow, one way directed up and down steep slopes and many dead end streets.
